His Code Name Was The Fox is the seventeenth book collection of FoxTrot strips, featuring the strips originally published on January 1, 2001 – August 25, 2001 (minus the week of July 23–28, 2001). Its contents were reprinted in FoxTrot: Assembled with Care.
The book's cover is based on the story arc where Roger feels like he hasn't accomplished anything and tries to write a novel. The book Roger writes depicts him as a super spy, doctor, athlete, model, and just about everything else. However, the book's name was never said. there is at least one redhead, and two blondes.
The book's title was notably the source of the name for the TV Tropes page "His Code Name Was Mary Sue".
